Located at the intersection of 24th and Christian in South of South Philadelphia, the Greenworks Technical School is an adaptive reuse project targeted to meet the local community’s needs. The center strives to bridge the gap between South of South Philadelphia and Center City by creating a community presence for economic, social, and sustainable growth of the community. The Greenworks Technical School reused an existing school building modifying it to fit the needs of the community as a whole adding community forum space, garden space, and a center for suitability workshops for both students of the school and community members.
Much of the existing structure was reused and helped to shape the adapted spaces. Floor plates were subtracted to create double height spaces where needed and facades were updated to increase the ratio of opaque and translucent surfaces.
