Inspiration
For this shoot, my client, Alaina, wanted portraits to celebrate her graduation from Pittsburg State University. She wanted to share these on social media as well as print them for graduation cards. She sent me these as inspirational pictures.
Alaina said her style was vibrant and colorful, but that other than that she wanted suggestions for posing and location ideas.
Process
Scouting Locations
This process started without the client. Alaina was a nursing student, but the building was under construction and we could not take pictures there. Thus, I checked out several different locations on campus for the shoot while testing different lighting and angles. I knew that she definitely wanted the infamous Pitt State tulips in her photos, so we scheduled the shoot for them to be in perfect bloom.

Shot List
Alaina wanted pictures in three different outfits and locations. In order to limit the number of outfit changes I created a shot list and shooting plan.

Shooting
This shoot was a lot of fun. One of my biggest tips for getting great photos is by setting up the vibe and making my clients comfortable. We played music in the background and shared lots of laughs. I showed Alaina the exact ways I wanted her to pose and shared lots of encouragement.

Because we were trying to get so many pictures in such a short period, I brought along an assistant to act as a human light stand with a speed light. She also helped with vlogging behind the scenes footage that day.

I then pulled the photos into Adobe Photoshop for edits:

- skin smooth/blemish removal
- color enhancement
- cropping (as needed)
- smile whiten
- bringing detail to the eyes
- clean up background
- erase stray hairs
