Lagaffe - Ceramic Sound Amplifier

Lagaffe
2019
Lagaffe is an unplugged ceramic sound amplifier for cellphones. The main idea was to be able to play music on your cellphone when there are no Bluetooth speakers around.
After studying the way sound works, from absorption to reflection, I started looking for an interesting shape and how it could relate to the cellphone.
The choice of ceramic materials was obvious, because it’s one of the least absorptive materials. The ceramic piece is mounted on a wooden base that elevates the amplifier in order to propagate the sound in several directions, plus the different openings also help to do that.
The choice of name is in homage to Gaston Lagaffe, famous franco-belgian comic book character, and his “music” instrument called Gaffophone, on which I based a lot of my final product's design.
