The Duality of A Plaza

The Duality of A Plaza
Enhancing the Soundscape of Outdoor Plaza - Group Academic Project.
Project by: Mayar Sabry, Rana Emad, Rana Yasser.
Location: Outdoor Plaza in Twin Plaza Mall, New Cairo, Egypt.
Programs Used: Photoshop, Powerpoint, Adobe Premiere.
Project Year: 2021

The project aims to create two contrasting soundscapes. The sonic bloom which enhances sounds picked up from the environment and transfers noises from one plaza to the other one.
The Calm Plaza
The view from the entrance has an inviting gathering area for people to talk. To the right is the calm plaza, where the main sounds are those of the green walls surrounding the plaza trees attracting birds, wind rustling leaves, the Adhan, and calm music. The sonic bloom is our main installation, which is made up of colorful horn-shaped parts that combine to form a stunning, dynamic bloom. It enhances sounds picked up from the environment and transfers sounds from calm plaza to the active one.
The Active Plaza
The central zone acts as a bridge between the two plazas where there’s a water fountain where kids can play, and people can talk and relax. The juxtaposition of the plazas brings our souls calm and peace without neglecting the fun. The active plaza are presented in gatherings of people, and football matches being shown on a big screen where there are water screens to contain the sound and provide calm water sounds.
