Malala Yousafzzai
Mock up book cover design of Nobel Peace Prize winner & women who fought for female education Malala Yousafzzai.
I took inspiration from a range of Indian references; culture, art, patterns, trucks etc for my colour pallet and use of pattern and shape.
Reading about Malala I found a story she said about when she was younger and the other young girls would draw flowers, butterflies and pretty things on their hands in henna, Malala and her friends wanted to appear intelligent so would draw chemical formations & cactus on their skin. Which is why I included these formations behind her in this illustration.
I was also moved by her quote "Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons" I felt this quote really summed up her essence and purpose in life as she stood up to & survived the Taliban for education & has been a voice for people who haven't got access to education.
