COLLABORATION WITH TEXTILE DESIGNER, YOON CHOI
Five yards of a digitally printed, cotton fabric (designed by RISD Textile Designers) were randomly distributed to each Apparel Design sophomore. I received this print from Yoon Choi.
Yoon's accomplishment in using organic shapes to create abstracted linear lines was my main source of inspiration. Cutting the fabric on the bias and piecing together several patterns allowed me to control and utilize the direction of the stripes. I emphasized these stripes- a crucial element in this evening gown- by creating three-dimensional pleats for the collar, side panels, and back panels of the bodice. The V created by the stripes also inspired my design; visible in the plunging neckline and back, seams, and chiffon gussets.
