This project was designed to explore six unique typefaces and their qualities to form both aesthetic and thoughtful compositions. Through this investigation, I highlighted an interesting feature with the use of cropping and scale while also considering its impact on the larger composition.
The environment surrounding the work showcases how well the composition fits onto a smaller scale. The organic forms blend with the rustic feel of the space it is occupying.
The composition of the piece lends itself well to the surrounding objects. The angular and almost bent feel of the letterform mimics that of paperclips, similarly to the ones strewn about the desk.
Scaling the works into a larger-than-life-size scene reveals just how versatile these compositions are. While they can fit into small, intimate settings, they can also be used to draw emphasis to otherwise empty storefronts.
"Hello, my name is" Helvetica. This font has a “plain Jane” type of personality. A very quiet but effective font that gets the job done.
It is my distinct pleasure to announce Stempel Garamond. Stempel is a narrow and elegant font that has a bit of a flare to it; a more formal feel.
You mess with Rock you get... well. Rockwell is jagged yet geometric and has a very upfront and bold personality. They like to be the center of attention and don't take no for an answer.
Hi there! This is Futura, a round and friendly font that has a soft and inviting nature. They want to be buddies with just about anyone they meet. Futura is okay with standing front and center or giving someone else the spotlight.
Oh hey, it's Platelet! Platelet has a spunky and loud personality but is also outgoing and accepting. They're the crazy wine aunt that may get a little tipsy but knows how to have fun.
Last, but certainly not least, Bauer Bodoni. Lookin' sharp! They clean up nice but have a bite to them, comparable to the unexpected presence of a tie that isn't a clip-on at senior prom.
