Form & counterform

One of the coolest things I have been studying lately is Type. Specifically, studying all the curves, angles, and personalities of each typeface. And for this exercise I observed six typefaces and their individual personalities. Then I selected one character from each typeface, isolated its attributes, and arranged them in six unique compositions. My intention was to get more intimate with each of the them and all the sexy bits that make up their individual character and type personalities. In addition, I explored creating my own mockups with stock imagery which was a worthy new adventure. Making your own is definitely worth the extra effort if time allows.

Typefaces and individual characters explored:

Bauer Bodoni - W
Helvetica - k
Platelet - g
Rockwell - 4
Stempel Garamond - {
Futura - Q

Bauer Bondi was aching to live in a space that could match its modern feel. This city billboard looks really cool next to these old chimney stacks.
Bauer Bodini is a modern typeface with clean sleek lines. Here, I've arranged the characteristics into a composition that feels orderly, precise and makes an impression.
Next up is Helvetica. With its simple lines, it somehow feels reliable. In this composition, I played on the long lines of the typeface and allowed the arrangement to give the onlooker a sense of continuation.
Meet Platelet, playful, quirky, and almost childlike. In this design of g's characteristics, I gave plenty of breathing room to highlight the curvilinear lines.
The curvy parts of this type against the sharp lines of this transit station has compelling juxtaposition.
Hello Rockwell. You're so sturdy and grounded. The number 4 represents you well and gives an air of confidence and you don't care who knows it.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall, surely Stempel Garamond is the fairest of them all. This bracket, brags on your elegance. Just call me Cinderella and take me to the ball!
I adore the curves of Stempel Garamond. My desire was to create a compelling design to proclaim it's sweeping elegance; A pretentious piece to hang in your living room.
Honest. clean, and straightforward, Futura thank you for your clarity. Here, I was playing around with a more ironic design; While disobeying the rules whilst honoring Futura's renowned legibility.
Saved the best for last! I would be remiss if I did not give Futura a place to shine.
Thank you so much for viewing my work!
