I was hired by interior fabrics company Fabricut to develop a few prints for their collaboration with style icon Iris Apfel. I was given Iris' notes including magazine tears and color palette ideas and created sketches, versions and multiple colorways for her review.
The Rose Floral print was inspired by a historic textile from Iris' personal collection. The inspiration piece was a packed all-over ikat-look print. From her direction I developed this floral swag layout with a faux ridge weave texture. We developed a dozen or more colorways together before the final 4 were chosen for production.
Iris wanted a simple single motif insect print for the Fantasy Bugs print. I first presented her with a page of insect photos, from moths to katydids and peanut bugs and she chose this locust. After presenting sketches, Iris loved my locust pencil sketch mockup and wanted the hand-drawn quality of the sketch to come through in the final product. We developed over 20 colorways together before landing on the final two for production.
