This is a scaled model for my Rethinking Seating class taken at the Furniture department. In reality, the two-people couch is controled by pre-programed microcontroller so its mechanical movements would happen according to human behavior: when the seaters stop talking, the couch would split and pull the seaters further away from each other. The seaters are thus propelled to make conversations to avoid such awkward silence.
Through this model in particular, the physical gap between the seats directly visualizes the lack of connection between two people, and the exaggerated gears signifies the unyielding movements of a machine.
