TRIBUTE MINERAL, 2022 - Paradise Lakes Campground in Wharton State Forest, NJ
Tribute Mineral is a tribute to NJ and NY based sculpture and installation artist Oki Fukunaga. This piece used his method of a tessalating triangular shape made from a coat hanger with its hook pointed inside. Eighty of these shapes were handmade and zip tied to construct a starburst. The piece was then rigged with addressable LEDs and programmed to animate. As it is a one time tribute, this will be the only piece I create using Mr. Fukunaga's method.

Tribute Mineral was test mounted in a private garden in New York City for an afternoon before a three day installation at Beardfest, an arts and music festival in New Jersey's pine barrens. It was later mounted at Mosaic Experiment, a radical arts event in Athens, Ohio.
The piece is approximately three and a half feet in diameter.
It uses 196 LEDs, programmed with WLED using an ESP8266 board. Over the course of eight hours, it cycles through 40 different ten minute cycles at random so that it rarely repeats itself. It was powered with AC voltage provided by Paradise Lakes Campground.
Construction and programming took two months. Materials used were plastic coated wire coat hangers, several hundred white zip ties, addressable wirestring LEDs, an ESP board and carabiners and paracord for mounting.
Here, the piece is shown mounted in a repurposed strip mine in Athens, Ohio.
Tribute Mineral remains in my personal posession and will not be displayed publicly again.
