The two photos of the flooded Wairau River are just over a year apart.
The first one was taken on 20th August 2022 and the second with the 40km/hr sign was taken 17th July 2021.
The river is not as high as last year, but still extremely high.
Nearby the Rai Valley has recorded 550mm of rain in a 48hr period and over four days had recorded 1012mm of rain.
SH6 to Nelson is in bad shape and SH63 to the Nelson lakes is closed due to the road been washed out. It's now over a 6hr drive via Hamner Springs and the Lewis Pass to get to Nelson.
