hahen [fragment] is a museum for secondary wood products manufactured in northwest arkansas. it is located on the land of a decommissioned military base, for chaffee, in fort smith, arkansas--the site of asian american internment in times of political strife. the site is, historically, one of the largest hardwood product and lumber producers in the united states. over-harvesting of materials has left the site devoid of any original growth or refinable materials. through interpolating historical and material contexts of fort chaffee, hahen becomes a series of units that form a misfit whole.
hahen's geometry is a compounding of fort chaffee's broken historical dynamic, the lingering presence of violence and the forces by which its greatest economic assets are crafted.
