Providence Art Academy

Providence Art Academy.
An art academy that focus on the relationship between walls and the interaction between different walls, creating various spaces that can be public and private. My study is about how paths lead to walls, and walls eventually lead to buildings, and buildings lead to different functions of spaces based on use.

This project emerged through the ambition to generate an engaging space that combine three drastically different characteristic communities surrounding it (Rhode Island Hospital, Community College of Rhode Island, and a Hispanic Neighborhood).
There are three types of walls in my project, a curtain wall, then a folding taller wall with openings, then a shorter similar triangular wall, creating a gradient of porosity through layering. Each type of wall creates a different hierarchy which is one of my concepts in space making.
I design my site as a whole with a dispersion technique, in which each building acts for a different use, the folds are a secondary element that defines the spaces in between. To achieve the goal of having a series of masses that organize the site, I reconstructed the landscape by having a serpentine-like winding, and meandering walls.
