Over wintersession at RISD, I enrolled in an iron casting course called Iron in Winter. In five weeks we built our cupola, ladles and each student made an object to cast.
Mine is a pink flamingo garden gnome with the head replaced by the baby head previously featured in Chick and Babyheads and Spaghetti.
I had this idea originally for slip casting but never got around to it.
The piece is solid iron and weighs 47 pounds. Sandblasted and treated with furniture wax.
