I have never been one for roller coasters, but riding a carousel is an entirely different experience. As a child, I remember smiling and laughing while my parents took photos of my sister and me on the colorful amusement ride. The arrangement of the ruffles in this art piece provides a round silhouette to reflect the circular process of a “merry-go-round.” This work is intended to be a visual representation of what a child may understand during his or her short time riding a carousel. For example, the loose ruffles are of various machine knit patterns and hems with the color changes being either dramatic or solid, representing the varying attention spans of children’s thoughts and ideas.
