This reinterpretation highlights the idea of a brutal, violent and tragic kind of love rooted from the famous quote
“O, pagibig na makapangyarihan Pag ika'y pumasok sa puso ninuman Hahamakin ang lahat Masunod ka lamang”.
It is now set in one of the bloodiest places in history, inside ancient Rome's colosseum. This design decision came from the underlying patriotism of Fransisco Balagtas’ text which did not only mirror the gladiators’ passion for fighting but was heavily inspired by Juan Luna’s Spoliarium that was also set in the colosseum.
