Recently I had a discussion about my process and why certain simple ideas take so long to complete when I do them in pencil. It maybe because of an obsessive quality that I seem to have inherited or it could be a close eye for details. I don't know... but for this project I decided to record my progress by taking a series of pictures. Below is a day by day record of what I did and how my idea changed as time went on.
Early on I realized that a lot of yarn samples I viewed were made of several strains twisted together, so I had to adjust my idea.
Here I finally added the bottom halves of the knitting needles.
Background. Suddenly, I realized that I did not like the background that I was creating so I started to experiment with the idea of a gradient. Here I also thought that it was looking a little "one note" so I began adding a bow to my shoe.
Almost did not finish! But here is the final piece. Graphite Pencils on 8 x 11.
Well, there it is... done. Enjoy.
