Form and Culture - Lights of Jaipur

Form and culture are interconnected with each other. This project shows an in-depth understanding of how design intervention can help in holding on to a form’s value, the culture it belongs to and the heritage of that particular place. Preliminary surveying of the form led to the beginning or research questions while learning about the form to a greater extent. This research further led to regulate the scale at which form had to be looked and studied at - “Street lights of Jaipur”. The form was looked from every possible aspect and forces mapped out which were directly or indirectly acting on the form. Various possible frameworks impacting the forces were discussed and common forces were clubbed together. A futuristic situation with regards to the form led to prominent changes in the initial observations and the forces manipulated according to the possible future changes. Throughout this process, a common question always triggered - “How will the older forms retain their value with the constant changes happening around?”. Possible design interventions could help the form maintain it’s heritage value and still be a part of an advanced civilization.
