Railroad Spike Kitchen Knives

Knife One: Proof of Concept

This first knife was more to see how viable it is to make a kitchen knife out of an old, reclaimed railroad spike. My goal is to make a set of traditional Japanese inspired knives that are not completely polished on their faces.
Top: Spike initial heating and first shaping
Middle: Spike drawn out
Bottom: Spike shaped to rough form
Heat treated in my oven for precise temperature control and quenched in a cookie sheet.
Knife blank pre-grip and proper sharpening.
Final knife without pins. The concept is definately something I am going to persue further.
Knife Two: Chopping Knife

Following the same steps as the first knife, this one is meant to chop vegatables. I am currently exploring materials for the handles. The most likely material is bamboo or beech with a copper or brass bolster/accents
