Project 02
Conceptual Book Cover
For this project I created 3 covers of a well-known book in the world of literature, Hamlet by William Shakespeare. The methods used in the covers are typography, focusing on typography. Next, I used handmade materials or a physical object to represent some important element of the story and finally, the third cover was designed of my choice, where we had to use any style or design concept.
Typography Book Cover
For this cover I decided to use a very iconic phrase from the book Hamlet as a point of focus. "We know what we are but know not what we may be" Which captures one of the messages left by the book showing the nature of the human being inspiring us to always fight for our ideals.
Handmade Materials Book Cover
In this design I used the wood that forms one of the wooden fences that I have at home. In this way, I created a crown since it symbolizes the historical context of Hamlet, where there were conflicts between the king and his nephew, due to the death of the previous king. It is a conflict that puts the reign of the people at stake, so I wanted to symbolize that with the crown.
Designer's Choice Book Cover
This design was created by taking an image of a man, a crown and a skull. Next, I merged these elements and applied the chalk and charcoal effect, leaving what you are seeing as the final work. The skull is a very important element in the story of Hamlet, since it is from the body of his father who at some point talks with Hamlet and tells him the truth about his uncle.
