The  ART OF MOSAICS
Belvedere Marittimo Calabria

My Trip to Calabria, Land of Sun, Sea, Chillies...discovering the Art of Mosaics
" The whole Lungomare is to be     aMare"

With the technique of trecandìs mosaic (in which the use of colored tiles is foreseen), all the still remaining walls and low walls were embellished with exposed concrete, with artistic mosaics.
In this way that ugly and unsightly visual impact has been changed into a beautiful, colorful and attractive vision.
Belvedere Marittimo (Cosenza) has been enriched with real works of art, enhancing the territory. The mosaics are made with recycled materials subtracted from dispersion into the environment, with the aim of bringing degraded areas back to the public decoration, with the participation and commitment of several Calabrian and Emilian Romagna artists, united to return a work to the public domain of art, of which every citizen, without distinction of race, sex, age, religion, social status, will be able to take advantage of it.

The mosaics in question differ from the "murals" because, unlike the latter, which tend to fade due to atmospheric agents, their aesthetics remain unaltered over time. Another important step to identify Belvedere as the city of mosaics.

Trencadìs is a mosaic technique that consists in putting together pieces of tiles (and also other) broken in a random way or suitably cut, in order to cover even very large surfaces.

The chromatic value of the whole is usually privileged, but it is possible to obtain also results very close to the traditional mosaic, depending on whether you intend to represent a specific subject or to work only on tones and colors.
