I do not consider myself a social or political activist in my art. However, I have been moved by the absurdity of our time. Particularly how we focus our attention on the lives and actions of celebrities. There violent acts and inner pain reminds us how we should not elevate people in this way.

I am distraught by how the life of a wealthy few can overshadow the important struggles in our world. A few I have chosen for this painting are the Covid virus and the atrocities in Ukraine.

I also chose five subjects as an homage to Rodin’s  Burghers of Calais. This mixed media painting is split into “sides” and surrounds the slap incident as the central point also making the Oscar statue the apex.
