Central Park. Ahhhh. If only I could find the words to explain the feeling I get when I’m in this park. My first time here was in September, right after I had moved to the city. I was just getting used to the chaotic streets, the GIANT buildings, the confusing subway system, and then DJ brought me here… To this magical oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. He had always told me that he hated New York until he went to Central Park, but it didn’t resonate with me until I went for myself. When we went, it was a hot, sunny day, and I remember just laying in the grass, staring at the sky. In that moment, I felt I could have been anywhere in the world. I could have been laying in a field with nothing in sight for miles, or on a boat wandering the open seas, staring at the clouds. For a brief moment, I felt like I had all the time and space in the world…. I felt as if I wasn’t surrounded by millions of people and thousands of buildings towering over me. I then realized why this one park took up a giant portion of this small city. It allows you to escape the crowded streets for however long you need. It lets you breathe. It lets you think. It allows you the alone time you may need. Ever since this day, I have been looking forward to the first big snowfall in the city. I wanted to witness the winter wonderland that this park would become. Yesterday I finally had the opportunity to go, and it was more than I had imagined. It reminded me of a winter day back home in Colorado, where the snowflakes were large but the temperature bearable, and everyone was out building snowmen and playing with their families. It was perfection. I managed to get some photos before my hands eventually froze… so please enjoy the Central Park photos in The City Gallery!
