CONSENSUALITY
ABOUT THE PROJECT

With around 348 Million youth population, India ranks highest in the world in the youth population. Youth constitutes one of the precious resources of India characterized by growth and development and is in a phase of vulnerability often influenced by several intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect their health and safety. The present view highlights that a significant proportion of youth has health impacting behaviour and conditions that effect their growth and development. Inadequate access to health information and services, as well as inequitable gender norms, contributes to a lack of knowledge and awareness about puberty, sexuality, intimacy and basic human rights, with a major growing concern around reproductive healthcare. This can have serious implications on young people's health and welfare and economic development. In view of the above, we believe there is an urgent need to identify, prepare, integrate and implement activities/interventions that promote health and well being among youth and encourage conversations around intimacy, relationships, reproductive health, and wellbeing. ASSOCHAM, Condom Alliance and MASH Project Foundation with its partner present Consensuality Project. The project aims at improving the knowledge of sexual health needs of young people in India and focuses on building the capacities of college-going youth to have healthy conversations around sexual and reproductive health and rights with their peers.

The Consensuality Project will provide safe spaces and forums for young people to talk about Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and needs in and around their academic institutions. The project involves mobilizing diverse youth across India (Delhi/NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai) and creating a safe space to engage in conversations on the anchors of intimacy, consensual relationships, equality, and sexual wellbeing through a blended learning format. We hope to build out high visibility communications that will influence public perception on intimacy issues and what it means to youth.

This is dedicated to providing an experiential learning program for youth who may often face challenges around meeting their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs and their well-being and also find themselves limited with the knowledge of health concerns and have inadequate access to health information and services.
