TWA at JFK airport in New York City. This airport terminal closed around 1999. I photographed the terminal in 2004-05 (400 images of 40 Years Later project) just before Jet Blue was to start building a new large terminal around the old TWA. These photos were taken in April 2011 as the restored terminal is about to be opened to the public. Shot taken Nov. 2010 at sunset with aircraft taking off.
Street front entrance showing concrete canopy overhanging street. Not an active terminal anymore. NYC is requesting proposals for new restaurants inside. Inside used to be the Paris Cafe, Lisbon Lounge, Constellation Club and the Ambassador Club.
This is the rear waiting lounge of the old TWA terminal @ JFK airport. Restoration from 2005 to 2011.
Rear view of the information kiosk inside the street front door. All walls are curved inside the terminal. Designed by architect, Eero Saarinen.
This is the old tarmac side of the original air terminal (not the front street side), now the view from the Jet Blue terminal windows.
This is one of two entrance passages to JetBlue terminal from the old TWA terminal. These tube passages used to lead to the FlightWings and the departure gates (now destroyed).
