My hometest was born out of a desire to dissect the bicycle's function of 'transportation' from its form. Interestingly, this is similar to RISD furniture design's "Transformations" presented at Ventura Lambrate, Salone Milan in 2012.
"The exhibition 'Transformations' showcases the concept of utilizing iconic everyday items outside their known applications. By taking these everyday items out of their normal contexts, they are transformed into unexpected objects with altered meaning."
I wanted to illustrate the bicycle's iconic form in the act of performing a new and unexpected function. I explored the bicycle wheel's form. Its potential not only to be used as a revolutionary transportation device when rolled, but to perform a function of dividing a solid material when used flat. I wanted to express the existing different abilities of a single invention. I also wanted to speak out that an objects functions are not limited because of its original intents.
The bicycle wheel is slicing through silicone-like material, inspired by a Korean food 도토리묵.

A clay model, cut with a miniature-wire bicycle wheel, was used as a model for the silicone.
