Reference Image
I chose this picture because I thought it would make for very interesting tonal maps. Its not a static position so I thought it would not only challenge me but be interesting to work with as well.
This is a quick line drawing I did based of the reference image. I am starting to get pretty comfortable with these seeing as I've had to do them quite often for this class.
This is the final product off my tonal map. I realized after that it was super weird of me to start with the shadows instead of the mid tone but for some reason that is how my brain processed the image.
For my different swatches I decided to keep the green theme. Naturally the first thing I took a picture if was the grass in my front yard, but then I ventured into the forest to take pictures of the mossy tree trunks. I had brought m&ms with me to snack on and thought it would be really cool if I bought a few more packages and separated all the green ones for a swatch photo.
This is how it looked when I replaced my mid tone with the different pictures I took. I really liked the way the last one ended up looking because I found that the more muted green and neutral colours was best for the mid tone shade. The m&ms were too vibrant and the grass just looks weird.
This was my way of kind of setting aside my previously collected thoughts when adding images into the tonal map. I found this old picture I took for a concert where the lights were flashing bright green and added it into my mid tone. The lights are evidently extremely bright and super flashy, so much so that the colour actually makes the highlight look more like a mid tone. I thought this looked pretty cool and gave an interesting effect to the final image.
For the final image I decided to combine my last two tasks. I picked the swatch I liked the best and layered it overtop of the bright colours rom the concert photo.
