On September 2012 I took pictures of the female football team’s players on the playground in Milan; the team name is Sirene. Close-up and half-length portraits show women dressing sport equipment similar to a medieval armor; these masks create a hard and rough surface covering bodies that on the contrary are sweet and malicious, sometime shy.
The total black background means to cancel any external references giving more power to the path of consciousness that athletes have done for acquiring their pride, that has not deleted sweetness and harmony on their faces: the difference between the strong cage of the equipment and the tenderness of the face drafts a modern vision of the mythic Joan of Arc.
