Slovenian sayings and proverbs
The theme of the postage stamp series is folk wisdom and proverbs that embody the "slovenian" way of life. Since the sayings are recognizable and deeply rooted in the general culture, their artistic treatment allows for a more "abstract" interpretation.
The stamps design is based on illustrations made using the dry needle technique on the Tetra Pak packaging. The graphic technique used to finalise the illustrations, the selection of materials and its repurposing, communicate a "slovenian" pragmatic approach to solving tasks.
Drypoint is a printmaking technique of the intaglio family, in which an image is incised into a plate (or "matrix") with a hard-pointed "needle" of sharp metal or diamond point. The engraving on the Tetra Pak has the same requirements as the traditional drypoint engraving, except that the material engraved on it is recycled, accessible to everyone and practically ready for use, unlike copper or zinc plates, which require a relatively long preparation phase.
