Met Gala Designs
These designs were inspired by the 2021 Met Gala look of Anok Yai and the iconic stage costumes of Josephine Baker from the 1920’s. Our assignment was to put ourselves in the minds of the Met Gala designers and create two more looks, along with mood boards, to show the design processes.
Anok Yai’s dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta for the 2021 Met Gala. His inspiration was the famous performer, Josephine Baker. To put myself in Oscar de la Renta’s shoes, I created two mood boards that helped me create the two designs showcased above. I wanted the designs to be cohesive with Anok Yai’s, as if these three dresses were launched as a collection.
The first mood board shown above, was technically my final mood board. However, I included the one below, to show the creative process I had while creating the boards and designs. This was the product of simply playing around with images and see where my creativity led me. This board was the inspiration for my inspiration, if you will. I loved designing these pieces! It was out of my comfort zone, but nonetheless fun and exciting!
