Useless Box Coffin

The Useless Coffin

This project is my take on a useless box, otherwise known as a useless machine, dumb box, idiot box (you get the idea).
Materials Used:
3D printer, jumper wires, arduino uno, 2 servos, popsicle sticks, hot glue, super glue, 10k resistor, plywood, a SPST toggle switch, and a lot of time.

The Inspiration
My dad inspired me to make this. He loves anatomy and skeletal models, as well as electronics and interactive machines. He told me that if I ever had the chance, I should make one of these, so I did.

The initial setup and configuration of the 3D printed anatomically correct skeletal finger hot glued to the propeller.
Initial prototype made from foamcore. it did not work very well as the foamcore was not sturdy and presented too many variated results when the finger attempted to press the switch.
2nd prototype setup with complete wire and breadboard layout. This 2nd design was much more sturdy and allowed for more accurate results, allowing me to properly calibrate the code to flip the switch.
The "No Touch" sign had to be added to give the finger a larger surface area to be more likely to press the switch, due to the switch and the tip of the finger being 2 smooth surfaces that caused the finger to slip on either side instead of pressing the lever. Adding the sign was originally for pure function, before I came up with the idea to incorporate a design to stick with the overall theme.
First setup with the final cut and painted coffin to test range and mobility of the finger, the inside hardware painted black to hide it a little better.
The final outcome for the project.
