This horror story from Voltaire's 'Candide' is part of a larger project started during the pandemic. Born the daughter of a Pope, the Old Woman has experienced the death of a fiancé, abduction by pirates, slavery, plague and cannibalism in wartime. She is a survivor. Her misfortunes have made her appreciate the little things. Candide is a shocking tale about the search for happiness, written by one of history's great philosophers.
