Transberdental (Trans-aber-dental)
Transberdental, started off originally as a smaller project, being a zine based around mental health, liminal spaces and Aberdeen. In particular, Aberdeen's urban mismanagement and how that can reflect on its inhabitants. This project grew as I got more invested in the urban mismanagement of where I grew and I have lived. Evolving more so into a commentary and an overall criticism of Aberdeen's city council as they are behind the development and decisions of the city, those decisions largely having effects on the urban landscape. the businesses that reside there and its inhabitants.

As this was a commentary and a criticism of Aberdeen's city council, the purpose of the zine although lesser, still exists and has purpose. The zines have two versions the booklet layout (as seen below) which is double sided and has 12 pages, and an alternative version which is more of a "traditional" zine which is one a3 sheet with a poster on one side and 6 pages of the original. These zines, the text within it doesn't matter too much as much of it is flavour text but more so what the zines represent. Meaning the context and content of these zines, are a representation of the state of Aberdeen as on its surface its shiny and clean but the more you go in. the more it degrades and makes little sense. The city reflects onto the mental health of those that live there.

If this social campaign goes live, I made prototype posters to advertise it and to start a conversation about the urban landscape of Aberdeen. This project, wouldn't be commercialised as it about sending a message to the population of the city and its city council, the aesthetic of this project representing this: as even as loud and even eyestraining this can come across, I think it does its job showing the degradation of the city, how much of a mishmash its architecture and aesthetic is, its lost and muddled, to those new to the city and those that also grew there, which makes it liminal. I think this style of the project does it job as it draws attention and it has reason to be done in this style. Its something, loud and rebellious.
These are website prototypes of what the project can look like in an online space. The purpose of these websites would be a hub for those that have interest and want to contribute to the project. The site itself featuring a page of ongoing petitions or open letters about Aberdeen issues which can be updated or have multiple running on the site, the project is to improve urban development. Originally with this project although started with a zine about Aberdeen and the liminalness of the city, I thought about making a website, which was more of an archive, where people could upload their own pictures of the city and have commentary on them, either from themselves or those that use the site.

I think on this website, this concept can still exist within its own page and not overshadow the cause of the campaign. With the original concept of the website, it also featured Aberdeen's ambiance of the city (via recordings, as seen much below) as I thought fit into the aesthetic and "vibe" of what was originally intended, I still kept the option as a music player on the site as the recordings itself, is very similar to white noise.

Due to the manner of the site and how its designed, it can come across as eye straining and can actually effect some people reading the site such as eye issues or so on so when the website is live, I think there can be an option to have a negative button, like a button to invert the colour on the site to negatives.

I am proud of the outputs of this project, its evolution and what it represents.
