My inspiration was the koi fish I saw at the Alan Gardens Conservatory. I liked the different tones and patterns that each fish had, and I thought they would look pretty in a scarf design.
For task 1, I outlined the shapes and colors of the fish using 6 shades of grey.
For task two, I experimented with different textures and color palettes. I decided that instead of using the basic outlines with just a 6-shade color palette, I wanted to make a more geometric design and use the eyedropper tool to get the most accurate color.
I tried to find a background for the scarf that fit the theme, trying different geometric shapes.
My final scarf design portrays simultaneous contrast, as the red and blue hues interact with each other. It is not what I had pictured when starting this project, but I enjoyed the process. Making such small geometric shapes was extremely tedious and I think it came out really nicely. If I were to do this project again, I would probably try to use more fluid, natural shapes to fill the object instead of geometric, although I do like the style of this scarf. I could see this scarf in a museum gift shop.It does not look like a scarf that is meant to be worn; however, I could see it framed or displayed in some way.
