YUNOMIS, CHAWANS & BOWLS

YUNOMIS, CHAWANS & BOWLS
Drinking a warm tea or soup from handmade functional art adds a certain dimension to its enjoyment.

There's pleasure in seeing people derive pleasure from the use of what I create, besides the inherent joy of creation.

Many of my pieces come with carved bottoms that are glazed to make them stand out further. When people enjoy with tea with company, and tip the cups to their mouths, their companions get to enjoy the view of the bottoms. It somewhat feels like an added form of interaction.

When drying on the rack with their bottoms up, the pieces spark joy in what may be a mundane part of the kitchen.
I particularly like Yunomis, as they are easily the most used items in my home. Mismatched wabi sabi pieces to suit different members of the house, and the different beverages one might enjoy. And when you can pick up a Yunomi without burning your hand, you know you have a beverage that will not scald!
Chawans tend to seem more formal to me. Perhaps the ceremonial element comes from the formality of a Japanese tea ceremony.
