KULANGANA, woman of substance: Hand painted with natural colours ‘Kulangana’ portrays a woman of positive influence and a woman of meaning. Madder is used for maroon, vermilion is used for red, for yellow I have used turmeric, Indigo gave the intense dark tones along with coal dust used for the outlines and other dark portions in the painting, turmeric mixed with indigo gave the colour green. All the powders were mixed with alum water. The painting is done on a water colour paper of size A4.
Chandalika is a story of a girl from the untouchable caste of India. Her life as a women and then as an untouchable women is full of rejections and ridicule. She questions her existence when one day a Buddhist monk asks her for water, she refuses as a low caste girl cannot give water to a spiritual “high” class monk.
Ironically the 2020 Covid situation made all of us untouchable.
How would you define a Bengali? I will go first, it is a synonym of LOVE. Our heart only beats for love and that is what we mostly wear. It’s not just about what our traditional outfit is but everything else that you will notice in a Bengali and in Bengal, you must fall in love with it. Love is a primeval instinct of the human heart, not necessarily it has to be as a result of the attraction of sexes it can be for other things in the cosmos like nature, a feeling of utopia! We are constantly motivated by considerations of worldly loss and gain and fail to realize that our relation with nature is that of joy and love.
This digital artwork represents that Nature resides in the melody of our love, it feels our senses and touches our life both the living and the dead for no reason. As we see and feel the vibe of nature words fall short, eyes brim out, futile expressions turns out never ending. Everlasting agony seems to have ended with the union of the eyes of passion. Carpe diem!
I have presented my muse in a traditional panjabi (usually tussar) paired with a sleeveless jacket (a.k.a. johor coat) who clearly seems to have fallen for the alluring nature that blinds his eyes. Since Kolkata’s heritage buildings are a part of the city’s unique DNA, I have tried to maintain the aesthetic and added an old building with traditional stained glass, arch window panels and shutter blinds. A bougainvillea tree growing on the blemished wall is just an aesthete add on. The bird represents freedom in the meaning of Love.
Chakra- the circle of life.
We have all come across this story of Lord Ganesha and his sibling Kartikeya, a charming tale of sibling rivalry and Ganesha's endearing ways when one day sage Narada visited Shiva and gave him a mango which was given to him by Lord Brahma. The one who ate it would gain knowledge and wisdom. Now, Lord Shiva was in a predicament as to which of his son he should give the mango to. After consulting with Parvati, he decided to hold a competition between the two boys, the terms were whoever circled the world thrice would win. Kartikeya immediately jumped on to his peacock and zoomed off before anyone could even blink, but Ganesha called his parents and asked them to sit together. Then he folded his hands and walked around them thrice. According to him, our parents are the world to us and they mean everything.
This life constitutes of the 24 major values and principles as per the 24 spokes of the Ashoka Chakra that we are conditioned with comes from our God worthy parents. The principles are as follows Chastity, Health, Peace, Sacrifice, Morality, Service, Forgiveness, Love, Friendship, Fraternity, Organization, Welfare, Prosperity, Industry, Safety, Awareness, Equality, Artha, Policy, Justice, Co-operation, Duties, Rights, Wisdom.

Gifted my parents this illustration on their 25th Anniversary, the reaction was priceless.
Some client projects
A flurry squall blew away those rustic leaves.
The first drop of life fell on one of those lucky leaves arousing hopeless hope
Slowly an overwhelming quantity showered
Under a canopy, a member of the Columbidae family was seen preening along with a screeching crow
An amalgamation of the heaven and hell
Seemed like they are planning on Samsāra in a spiritual realm
The undulating silence emphasized on those soul having their moment of virtues and torment
Or a refute between Dharmic and Abrahamic religions
Or a contrast between eternal oblivion and After life.
But with the beam of warmth the difference flew to their origin
For conscious experience is illusory,
And that life is meant to be passing one day like those rusted leaves
With no clue of our reincarnation or non existence
For the Grave is a neutral place
