SHAPE & COLOUR

I wanted to use a photo of my younger sister from a few years ago for this project. I find her expression was funny and thought she would make an excellent subject for my scarf design. I have two photos, one colored and one grayscale. The grayscale photo was ideal since I find it easier to draw some lines with a pen tool and it is better to emphasize the shadows, bars, and shapes.

DrAWING My SUBJECT
For the Adobe Illustrator process, I had to insert the photo first and then lower the opacity level so it was good enough for me to see where I should point my pen tool. I used the pen tool to make the form, and honestly, it took me a long time because sometimes, the lines don't look perfect. I had to double-check that they were exactly where they should be. And if not, then I have to undo and redo them. After finishing my subject piece, I duplicated the layer and moved it to where the lines would connect with one another or be parallel.

TONAL MAPPING AND COLOUR

I decided to fill in parts where shadows are visible in my subject's coloured image for my Tonal mapping procedure. To distinguish them, I employed contrasting grey colours.
One of the few problems I faced with this project was deciding on colours. It wasn't easy to decide which colours were attractive and blended with one. The image of my colour scheme is displayed and the name is Montréal in Motion.  A purple shade is enhanced with paradise pink, and brilliant blue has been transitioned into lovely variations (Palatinate Blue, Midnight Blue, Dark Orchid).

The blue and purple colours are simultaneous contrast.

WATERCOLOUR TEXTURE
I used watercolour paper as my media paper, and my favourite colours to use are blue and purple. I began with the blue paint, but first, I painted a layer with water, and then I used my paintbrush to glide with the droplets to create light and darker shades of blue. I wanted to try something new in my painting process, so I added salt and pinched them in different areas on the paper. After that, I wanted the paint to dry quickly, so I used a hairdryer to speed up the process.

I like where this is going, but the colors look weak. So I tried relayering them with paint and water for a lovely texture. I love how the blue collides with purple and have a beautiful look for my scarf background.
I felt compelled to include circles in the media because I felt like it. I painted ten imperfect circles.
It's art, and it isn't supposed to be perfect. It's supposed to make someone feel strange and out of context.
I took a picture of it once I was satisfied with the quality and decided to use Procreate to add some light texture with a highlight brush. I then added the image and another exact image parallel to each other. Now it's a mirrored-type background.
DESIGNING THE SCARF
For my Border Brushes in Adobe Illustrator, I decided to bring a variety of shapes to my scarf design, such as hearts, clovers, spades, diamonds, stars, circles, and straight lines. I used my arrow to try to form large loops or by joining triangles and other shapes.

I added a thick white border and somewhat measured (in my mind) a half-inch-ish space for the frame with lines of circles and squares at the end of each corner. For the next part, it is pretty much not that obvious, but I added another line of stars between the straight and circular line borders for the following portion. It looks ok. They blend well in my perspective.
I placed a dark blue square as a second layer for all of my subject matter and other design efforts. The transparency level is 26%, and you can still see the first layer's background. I then added a large circle in the center, surrounded by a circular border with lines inside, because I had an idea to make my scarf look like a clock- A Scarf resembling the appearance of a time clock. I am not trying to make it look exactly like a clock, but somewhat like that. I inserted four images of my subject matter, and I had them all aligned up and separated by a space.
Next, I made a pattern starting with a clover, two hearts, a spade, and two more hearts and then repeated it one more time. I added one diamond at the center of the scarf. I opted to have color codes for the shapes, and they look great. Super classy!
I then added another circular borders of the line leaves with tiny dots I then added another circular border of the line leaves with tiny dots and another flower image for the inside of the square's four corners. Canva is where I found the flower image.

THE FINAL SCARF DESIGN
REFLECTION
This Scarf Design would look great if made of high-quality silk. I like how the design isn't too dark or too bright and how the colours live in harmony.
In this scarf design, I believe I have achieved balance and symmetry. Everything was meticulously placed, leaving enough room for the designs. I'm satisfied with how it turned out. It required a lot of effort and sleepless nights on my part, but it was all good.
I designed this scarf to show to my sister, and she said she loves it!
