from pines and birches

Once again, I was out and about in the lower elevations of Steinwald. On the meager granite weathered soils one finds more often pines and birches in the forests. My interest this time was the barks of the trees. Various mosses and lichens settle on the birch trunks. The barks of the pines fascinate by their patterns and structures and they reminded me of my childhood, when we carved small boats out of them.
