Tensegrity Table
I made this project mostly to have fun. The past few hackathons, I was trying out new skills and this was very stressful. So I decided to do something that I am comfortable with, woodworking. In addition, I was wanting a new table to go next to my couch. Making a cool looking table was a perfect idea. The table is suspended by chains and uses gravity and tension to keep the top of the table aloft. Making the table was an enjoyable experience despite running out of time on the staining/painting process.
Starting out, I had made these 12x12 inch boards. I made them from 1 longer piece of wood and glued them together. Then I ran them through a planer to make sure the surface was flat. These would be used at the top of the table and the base.
I used this long piece as the source for my supports. I used a chopsaw to cut them to length.
I put the pieces together and attached them to the table top and bottom using wood glue and screws. the final portion was to put in the hooks, put in the chain and paint/stain it.
Here is the finished product. I am really proud of how good this looks.
