Santiago Travel Pop Up Exhibition
The project is to design a temporary structure for a travel exhibition and promotion pop-up to showcase the chosen city Santiago. The site is located at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur City Centre with a total area of 3033.27 sq. ft. of the proposed space.
Santiago, Chile is the largest city and capital of Chile  (641 sq km) and is surrounded by the Andes mountains and the Chilean Coast Range. Known as one of the most modern cities in Latin America, Santiago boasts a diverse mix of ancient tradition, European influence, metropolitan buildings and landscapes from the wonders of nature. Contrasting features like contemporary spaces with fine art galleries, and downtown which is full of street art juxtaposed with the glowing towers in the financial district, the city is diverse in culture, people, buildings and landscapes.

As u enter the space through the platform, a recreation of Plaza De Armas is displayed, which is a public square located in the heart of Santiago. Mountains are also placed by it’s sides which represents the mountain ranges surrounding the city.  Surrounded by mountain ranges, it welcomes visitors into the heart of the city as they pass through the mountains and into Plaza de Armas.
exterior view
As Santiago is a city with several complementary elements such as its geographical location being surrounded by mountain ranges, which serve as a contrasting backdrop against the developed city, each area is designed to capture distinctive parts of Santiago that when blended together into an exhibition space, showcases the city’s unique diversity. Hence, this exhibition features a variety of different experiences that one can have when exploring the city.
artisan market & workshop
Also known for its traditional indigenous handicrafts, visitors can purchase items made by local artisans from the stalls. This area is a recreation of Los Dominicos Park which is a artisanal market and village and is a staple to truly be introduced to Chilean culture. If interested, workshops are held for visitors to pick up a new skill and have a hands on experience on the process of creating the handicrafts.
plaza de armas & barrio bellavista
It is a lively and vibrant bohemian neighbourhood in Santiago which is full of colourful buildings and craft markets. And so, this diorama is made to mimic the feeling of walking down the streets of Barrio Bellavista neighbourhood.
food tasting cafe
The atmosphere of the cafe is a blend of typical restaurants that can be found all over the city as well as their more trendy cafes with the checkered tiles and the many pictures hanging on the wall. Chilean food is diverse which embodies the cultural contrasts from its influences. In this food tasting cafe, visitors will be able to try out various staple Chilean dishes from Santiago.
