Team Table Design

Team Table Project (TTF)

Teammate, Melvin Matos, and I were faced with the issue of having to design a half of a table capable of joining itself to any other team's table, as well as support 1gal+ of milk once joined. Materials were limited to foamcore and surface treatments, though, having become enthralled by the ideation process of the table's design, we decided to take our concept further by visualizing it with potential production materials.

Design Notes:
One of the primary considerations over the development of this concept was the interplay of form and function. Aesthetic components had to be structural, and structural components beautiful. Out of this design principle was born the angular central leg of this table. Spanning from one corner of the product to the other in a diagonal path, the main leg serves to diagonally brace the table, providing an optimal strength/sqft ratio. Likewise the triangular cutouts from the form are not just beautiful to look at, but serve to more evenly distribute the force across the leg -- strengthening itself under compression.
