The goal of this project was to design a sequence of three book covers from an existing book series. For this assignment three books chronicling the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were chosen. Specifically The Valley of Fear, The Sign of Four, and A Study in Scarlet. The inspiration for the illustration was motivated by a desire to revive the design of classic book covers, thus rejuvenating an interest in these great works. The colours were derived from old British hunting plaids of the time, which provide a bright contrast, making these books stand out on the shelves.
