Baconao. Snails, legends, and fabric.

This design project was aimed at creating a print collection for a brand already established in the market. My chosen brand was Harlequin, an international luxury fabric store. After studying the design vocabulary, market, and language of the brand, I came up with the print collection: "Baconao".
The mood board. The keywords were drawn from the existing language of the brand as well as the characteristics of my inspiration.

Co-ordinates developed for the collection, based on the main print. I experimented with several techniques to bring out accompanying textures, stripes, over all patterns and more. The idea was to provide a range wide enough to suit a variety of tastes and choices.
BACONAO
The Place and the Legend

Baconao is a wide region located 20 kilometers off the city of Santiago de Cuba. In 1987, UNESCO declared World Reservation of this exotic biosphere.
The name Baconao comes from a local legend of an indigenous little boy who is said to have lived in the south of Cuba. A magical tree called Bacona taught the boy to play music using the snails of the lagoon. One day, the boy went to take a walk, and he never came back. With time the music that the boy played with his snails was heard among trees and the residents thought that this magic had stayed in the trees. Hence they started calling the area “Baconao”.
