MHC 2020 - Typography: Typography Poster

Project 3: Typeface Poster
The objective of this project was to choose a typeface and create a poster about the history of the types creation, interesting characteristics, and how it looks in bold, italic and regular.
My choice in what font I would talk about is called "Baskerville"
The Baskerville font is labelled as a transitional typeface, which reefers to typefaces that have alterations to the classic typefaces that would be seen in a lot of modern typefaces later on. Today, transitional typefaces are now viewed as the bridge between classic and modern typefaces. John Baskerville wanted to remodel the classic typeface Casion to be more legible and subtle since ink & paper manufacturing was becoming popular at the time. But like other transitional typefaces, Baskerville was heavily disliked by the general public who still preferred the old classic typefaces and felt the changes Baskerville had done were “too stark” while people said the printing “damage the eyes”. The rise of modern typefaces such as Bodoni, eventually made Baskerville obsolete until 191, when Bruce Rogers used Baskerville for the Harvard University Press. He gave the old condemned typeface new life and since then Baskerville has new found fame that would have never been thought of when John Baskerville was still alive.
