As an exercise in modelmaking I chose to recreate the LC-2 chair designed by Le Corbusier at 1/4th scale. Emulating the appearance of tubular steel and stuffed leather to scale provided a number of interesting problems along the way.
A full size LC-2 Chair
Photo references and dimensional layout
Blue foam layers before being spray-glued together
Block approching final chair dimensions using a sanding pad
Sculpted seat and cushions using sandpaper and a sureform. Blue tape used to protect buffed stainless rod
Spackle applied and being sanded to a smooth finish
Sanding complete, ready for spraypaint layers
Second layer of spray primer applied immediately before the black semi-gloss spraypaint
