Power-carved Walnut timber. High polished finish on the inside and sealed with danish oils.  Scorched with flame on outside and cured with beeswax and pigments.

I experimented with spray painting the timber, then hand carving into the surface.

At the similar time in 2021 when I was making the dish above, The Naughty Children Disappointed Dad Dish. My eldest son, then 7 years old, was spray painting and mark making into this piece of Ash Wood board. H 210mm x W 150mm x D15mm (aproximately)

Video - Staining a Turned Timber Foot for a Heritage Dish

The foot is turned from Pine wood stained and sealed. The dish is cast into discs and slumped into the curved shape. I use Casting Glass Crystal for these dishes. The method is inspired by Roman Glass Makers who melted shards of colourful glass together forming their ornate dishes. I call them Heritage Dishes because here where I am in the North East of England there still remain a rich collection of Roman Artifacts and cultural undercurrents.
