This Assessment 2 task for the unit Kinetic Image and Text (DVB301) was to create a series of videos in a motion graphics portfolio. My portfolio comprised of a main promotional video accompanied by three digital posters. These act as advertisement pieces to promote a fictional art installation/exhibition "Crystalline Galaxy" at Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, showcasing the refraction and dispersion of light through crystals.
Kinetic Design Principles
I made use of multiple foundational principles and technical approaches learnt over this university semester. In the promotional video, the screen is utilised as a window, while in the posters it is a room. Light and shading, as well as size and scale and opaque layering, promote depth of field. All text is horizontally oriented and both vertically and horizontally directed. Script fonts represent fanciness, elegance and femininity. Sans Serif fonts are simple, straightforward and easy to read ("What Different Types Of Fonts Mean And How To Use Them", 2021). Black and White colour schemes convey a sense of luxury and elegance, as well as its high contrast inciting peak visual interest ("Color Meanings and the Art of Using Color Symbolism", 2021). Slow fade text along with extended duration pauses allow for easy digestibility of content and invites careful consideration. Cuts allow simple, clean scene transitions. Sequential proximity establishes a consistent, smooth visual flow. Structural hierarchy is image dominant.
