Self Portrait (Attempt 1)
2022
B Pencil in Sketchbook
9"x 12"
I drew this in the afternoon with my hair down. I did it like that because I wanted to try to capture my self in a relax and focused mood. Plus, I wanted to be able to challenge myself to draw with my hair down. I discovered how tricky it is to draw my hair because my hair is usually a mess and it's curly. Also, it's hard for me to draw the wrinkles on my t-shirt because there are so many of them and they're a bit hard to see within a distance from my bedroom mirror.
Self Portrait with Shadow
2022
2H and 6B Pencils in Large Drawing Pad
18"x 24"
I drew this after I got home from eating out when my hair was tied up, but with little strands of hair clearly sticking out. I drew my self portrait like this because drawing with my hair tied up is much easier than drawing with my hair down. Plus, I think that adding the little strands of hair makes the drawing look more interesting. I discovered that it is harder to add the shadow with just pencil. Also, because I was wearing a black shirt, it was much harder to draw the wrinkles and to add the shadow to it.
