75 Years of Linguistics at Cornell

75 Years of Linguistics at Cornell
These light post banners were commissioned by the Linguistics Department at Cornell to celebrate their seventy five year anniversary.
The first banner employs the College of Arts & Sciences' typeface Gibson and the Cornell primary color red.

In the second banner we transposed the expression "Cornell Linguistics" using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), an alphabetic system of phonetic notation. Since most typefaces, including Gibson, don't have all the IPA symbols, I settled on the classic Baskerville.

To visually translate "Cornell Linguistics" to "kɔɹˈnɛl lɪŋˈgwɪstɪks" I opted for a blended transition from one phrase to the other. This treatment could work in different aspect ratios, by applying a shorter blend transition, for various future applications.
